Another major thing Father is going to destroy out of His people is the pride of elitism. I know this because He constantly points at in my own life as He has done in time past regarding self righteousness which he had me focus on a bit in the last post. Webster’s dictionary says that elite means: “a group or body considered or treated as socially superior”.
The church is His body. Somehow I do not think Jesus is impressed with some parts of His body thinking of themselves as being better than other parts. No one is to think more highly of himself than he ought to. We are called to serve one another and to honour one another and to receive one another as being higher than ourselves. Always lifting up the other person rather than exalting ourselves above them is the hallmark of Jesus.
In most cultures there is worship and veneration given to those elite ones among the people who excel above everyone else in their particular field. It is not wrong to excel. And those who excel the most are considered to be elite. But in the Church, mostly in Charismatic/Pentecostal circles people are being enticed to dream of greatness all the time.
The gift of prophecy is to edify the body of Christ. Yet a lot of prophecy serves only to build up the ego and pride. Beware when you receive a word of prophecy from someone which says you are going to be great. Yes I know that Nathan gave such a word to David, God does say these kinds of things but having been in these movements for years I saw how this carrot of future greatness worked.
Of course being told you are going to be a great apostle, or prophet or some other ministry gift will automatically qualify you for the strong dealings of the Holy Spirit so that by the time you are to be released into the gift–you have been brought low.
It may be that God has elite forces in His army. But I believe that those who are in these select groups would not even care that they are. They would not wear their green beret in public….or their General’s 5 stars on their breast. And they would not be tempting God’s children to seek after greatness.
The simple truth remains–if you wish to be great you must serve others. That means you go down under and they are above you.
This is what Father will do for many of us His children in the months ahead.
We have had it all wrong! The so called five fold ministry gifts have been seen as an elite calling from our commander in chief. We have sought to be one of these people because we thought it would elevate us upwards above others.
Look at Paul’s example and see a true Apostle. He worked long hours to provide for those in his team, working with his hands making tents.
Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;
4 If do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
9 Heb 1:9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
